Indonesian Safe House Network
Many people in Indonesia live under vulnerable conditions — facing social, economic, or personal risks that leave them without a safe place to retreat. In such situations, the presence of a safe house can be the only lifeline: a place to survive, to breathe, and to gather strength.
Through the Indonesian Safe House Network, we — a small circle of trusted friends working professionally together — are committed to establishing a network of safe spaces across several regions of the archipelago.
Objectives
1. To provide a safe and discreet place for individuals in need of refuge.
2. To serve as a point of recovery, protection, and reflection for people at risk.
3. To maintain the sustainability of the safe houses with integrity and professionalism.
4. To offer employment opportunities in literacy and publishing, helping residents gain independence and contribute meaningfully.
Use of Funds
We are raising USD 650 (approx. IDR 10,500,000) to cover the initial setup costs. The funds will be allocated as follows:
Category | Details | Estimated Cost (IDR) |
---|---|---|
Rental (boarding/house) | IDR 1,500,000/month x 3 locations (1st month) | 4,500,000 |
Kitchen & cooking tools | Stove, gas, pans, pots, utensils | 2,000,000 |
First Aid (P3K) | Basic medicines, first aid kits, sanitizer | 1,000,000 |
Stationery & admin needs | Notebooks, pens, paper, filing supplies | 500,000 |
Household essentials | Mats, foldable beds, pillows, cleaning tools | 2,000,000 |
Total | 10,000,000 |
> Note: This budget only covers the first month's rent and basic setup. Continued operation will require further community support.
Purpose of the Safe Houses
The safe houses will function as:
* A discreet and secure shelter.
* A temporary refuge from danger.
* A space for contemplation, rest, and recovery.
* A collective workspace for literacy and publishing: providing opportunities in writing, editing, translation, small-scale publishing, and knowledge-sharing — both to develop skills and to generate income for residents.
Guiding Principles
Confidentiality is paramount: locations will not be made public.
Professional and trustworthy: managed by a small circle of experienced and committed friends.
Unconditional solidarity: anyone living at risk is welcome.
Empowerment through work: literacy and publishing will serve as a medium for expression, skill-building, and long-term sustainability.
Closing
The Indonesian Safe House Network is a small but meaningful effort to create safe spaces for those in need. Beyond temporary shelter, it aims to be a place where people can also create, write, and reclaim their voices through literacy and publishing.
We invite your support through Firefund to make this initiative possible.
For those living at risk, this safe house will be a light in the dark.
For all of us, it is a chance to share solidarity and to build spaces of refuge and creativity.
